Biografie
Charlotte Crevits (b. 1990, Ghent, Belgium) works since January as the artistic coordinator of the visual arts at CC Strombeek, a progressive art centre in the outskirts of Brussels. Over the next 3 years she is the artistic director together with Joost Declercq of Art On Paper in Bozar and works as an independent curator. From 2017 until 2020 she was the senior curator at the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (MDD) in Deurle, Belgium where she organized exhibitions with artists including Karla Black, Charline von Heyl, Nástio Mosquito, Naama Tsabar, Francis Upritchard and Gary Hume. Trained as an art historian (Ghent University, Belgium, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London and UCLA, Los Angeles), her research interest focuses on new tendencies in Institutional Critique and its legacy. Crevits was previously involved on volunteering base at diverse non-profit institutions as Camden Arts Centre, Chisenhale Gallery in London and S.M.A.K. in Ghent. Her personal background in classical and contemporary dance gave birth to her dedication to the visual arts.
Crevits’ research interest focuses on new tendencies in Institutional Critique and its legacy. She mainly focuses on the so-called 3rd generation institutional criticism with artists who themselves start noteworthy initiatives outside the boundaries of the normal art institution, such as The Land Foundation by Rirkrit Tiravanija or RESET by Gert Robijns. She is also interested in the artist’s practice and the shifts within it – therefore she maintains long-term relationships with the artists. Her focus is on the cross-fertilization between empathy, affect, intuition, chance and social developments that contribute to an artist’s practice.
