Ward Collin werkt met het foto­gra­fi­sche pro­ce­dé wet pla­te col­lo­di­on. Elke foto wordt met de hand gemaakt. Hij wil ener­zijds uit­die­pen hoe foto­gra­fie in de 19^e eeuw beleefd werd, ander­zijds onder­zoe­ken hoe dit che­mi­sche pro­ces van­daag rele­vant is in een tijd waar­in beel­den instant circuleren.

Met een mobie­le don­ke­re kamer trekt hij naar ver­schil­len­de plek­ken. Ter plaat­se giet hij de che­mie op een plaat, maakt die licht­ge­voe­lig en ont­wik­kelt het beeld ter­wijl de plaat nog nat is. Het hele pro­ces is een race tegen de klok. Wie poseert neemt actief deel. Wat over­blijft is geen bestand, maar een object.

Ward Collin works with the wet pla­te col­lo­di­on pho­to­grap­hic pro­cess. Each pho­to is taken by hand. He aims to explo­re, on the one hand, how pho­to­grap­hy was expe­rien­ced in the 19^th cen­tu­ry, and, on the other, how this che­mi­cal pro­cess is rele­vant today, in an age whe­re ima­ges cir­cu­la­te instant­ly.

He tra­vels to various loca­ti­ons with a mobi­le dar­kroom. On-site, he pours the che­mi­cal onto a pla­te, sen­si­ti­zes it to light, and devel­ops the ima­ge whi­le the pla­te is still wet. The enti­re pro­cess is a race against the clock. Anyone who poses acti­ve­ly par­ti­ci­pa­tes. What remains is not a file, but an object.
