Een intiem en rit­misch alt­vi­ool­con­cert met huis­houd­ob­jec­ten

PORTMANTEAU is een alt­vi­ool­con­cert met alle­daag­se objec­ten als vin­ger­hoed­jes en was­knij­pers als speel­se klank­ver­ster­kers. De rit­mi­sche com­po­si­ties zijn bedoeld voor intie­me ruim­tes en nodi­gen een breed publiek uit om heden­daag­se muziek op een toe­gan­ke­lij­ke manier te ontdekken.

De stuk­ken zijn gecom­po­neerd met intie­me ruim­tes in gedach­te, zowel om akoes­ti­sche als dra­ma­tur­gi­sche rede­nen. Ze zijn geschikt voor een uit­een­lo­pend publiek, waar­on­der jon­ge luis­te­raars en nieuws­gie­ri­ge toe­schou­wers. Vertrouwdheid met heden­daag­se muziek is niet nodig. Speelse rit­mes en het onver­wach­te gebruik van objec­ten maakt het werk van Julie toe­gan­ke­lijk en zorgt voor een uit­no­di­gen­de ken­nis­ma­king met nieu­we muziek voor wie dat nog niet kent.

Julie Michael is alt­vi­o­lis­te en onder­zoek­ster ver­bon­den aan LUCA Research. Ze streeft ernaar om muziek uit alle tijd­per­ken met dezelf­de oprech­te toe­wij­ding te ver­tol­ken, voor elk publiek. Als gepas­si­o­neerd ver­tol­ker van nieu­we muziek werk­te ze samen met tal van com­po­nis­ten aan pre­mi­è­res van solo­wer­ken en kamer­mu­ziek voor alt­vi­ool. Julie trad op in heel Europa en Noord-Amerika als voor­ma­lig lid van het Tana Quartet, en als gast bij ensem­bles zoals Ictus, Alarm Will Sound en Ensemble Intercontemporain. Ze is een inne­men­de per­for­mer voor jong publiek en geeft regel­ma­tig con­cer­ten en work­shops op scho­len en kinderfestivals.

An inti­ma­te and rhythmic vio­la con­cert with hou­se­hold objects

PORTMANTEAU is a vio­la con­cer­to that uses eve­ry­day objects like thim­bles and clo­t­hespins as play­ful sound ampli­fiers. The rhythmic com­po­si­ti­ons are inten­ded for inti­ma­te spa­ces and invi­te a broad audien­ce to dis­co­ver con­tem­po­ra­ry music in an acces­si­ble way.

The pie­ces were com­po­sed with inti­ma­te spa­ces in mind, both for acous­tic and dra­ma­tic rea­sons. They are suit­able for a diver­se audien­ce, inclu­ding young lis­te­ners and curious onloo­kers. Familiarity with con­tem­po­ra­ry music is not requi­red. Playful rhythms and the unex­pec­ted use of objects make Julie’s work acces­si­ble and pro­vi­de an invi­ting intro­duc­ti­on to new music for tho­se who are not yet fami­liar with it.

Julie Michael is a vio­list and researcher affi­li­a­ted with LUCA Research. She stri­ves to per­form music from all eras with the same sin­ce­re dedi­ca­ti­on, for eve­ry audien­ce. As a pas­si­o­na­te per­for­mer of new music, she col­la­bo­ra­ted with numerous com­po­sers on the pre­mie­res of solo works and cham­ber music for vio­la. Julie has per­for­med throug­hout Europe and North America as a for­mer mem­ber of the Tana Quartet, and as a guest with ensem­bles such as Ictus, Alarm Will Sound, and Ensemble Intercontemporain. She is an enga­ging per­for­mer for young audien­ces and regu­lar­ly gives con­certs and work­shops in schools and at child­ren’s festivals.
