Mieke Winters (°1996) woont in Brussel en werkt in Leuven. Ze behaalde een master in de Vrije Kunsten aan Sint-Lukas Brussel. Mieke is een beeldend kunstenaar met een grote voorliefde voor gips en textiel.
Haar werk was eerder al te zien op het Habitat Festival, waar ze de installatie “(on) Bewoond Eiland” toonde. Onder het motto ‘please do touch’ nodigde ze het publiek uit om dit landschap van onbewoonde eilanden tijdelijk te bewonen, samen met haar sculpturen. In 2022 kreeg ze haar eerste solotentoonstelling, “You’re Invited to Play”. Met haar intuïtieve installaties en tactiele beeldtaal nodigt Mieke Winters bezoekers uit om deel te nemen aan haar speelse, sculpturale werelden.

Mieke Winters (born 1996) lives in Brussels and works in Leuven. She earned a Master’s degree in Liberal Arts from Sint-Lukas Brussels. A visual artist with a passion for plaster and textiles, Mieke has previously presented her work at the Habitat Festival with the installation “(un)Bewoond Eiland.” Under the motto “Please do touch,” she invited the public to temporarily inhabit this landscape of uninhabited islands with her sculptures. In 2022, she presented her first solo exhibition, “You’re Invited to Play.” With her intuitive installations and tactile visual language, Mieke Winters invites visitors to participate in her playful sculptural worlds.

Miekes praktijk draait vooral om de interactie tussen haar werk, de toeschouwer en de omgeving waarin het zich bevindt. Haar sculpturen zijn objecten die menselijke verlangens en behoeften bijna personifiëren. Door hen dergelijke eigenschappen toe te kennen krijgen de sculpturen een eigenzinnig en tegelijk vertrouwd karakter. Ze beschouwt hen als uitnodigingen, groot of klein, voor zintuiglijke ervaringen en fysieke ontmoetingen. Voor haar is het essentieel dat haar werk niet alleen visueel aanspreekt als ook emotioneel en fysiek resoneren.

Mieke’s practice revolves around the interaction between her work, the viewer and the environment in which it is located. Her sculptures are objects that almost personify human desires and needs. By giving them such properties, the sculptures acquire a quirky yet familiar character. She sees them as invitations, large or small, for sensory experiences and physical encounters. For her, it is essential that her work not only appeals visually but also resonates emotionally and physically.
