‘Palindroom’, de titel van de eer­ste solo­ten­toon­stel­ling van Sarah De Vos bij Galerie Sofie Van de Velde, bete­kent keerschrift of spie­gel­schrift. Een palin­droom is een tekst die van ach­ter naar voren gele­zen pre­cies het­zelf­de is als van voren naar ach­te­ren. De titel weer­spie­gelt de fas­ci­na­tie van de kun­ste­naar voor intro­spec­tie en reflec­tie, voor de schil­der­kunst als won­der­baar­lij­ke weer­ga­ve van de wereld om ons heen en de tijd waar­in we leven. In elk van de wer­ken wordt een spel gespeeld met ver­dub­be­ling en omke­ring. Door de uit­ge­kien­de mise-en-scè­ne is de expo­si­tie als een spie­gel­pa­leis waar­in de motie­ven van de schil­de­rij­en ein­de­loos in elkaar weerkaatsen.

‘Palindrome’, the tit­le of Sarah De Vos’ first solo exhi­bi­ti­on at Galerie Sofie Van de Velde, stands for rever­se or mir­ror wri­ting. A palin­dro­me is a text read from back to front exact­ly the same as from front to back. The tit­le reflects the artis­t’s fas­ci­na­ti­on with intro­spec­ti­on and reflec­ti­on, with pain­ting as a mira­cu­lous repre­sen­ta­ti­on of the world around us and the times we live in. Each of the works plays a game of dou­bling and rever­sal. Through the cle­ver mise-en-scè­ne, the exhi­bi­ti­on is like a pala­ce of mir­rors in which the motifs of the pain­tings end­les­sly each other.
