Stiel maakt monumentale maquette voor Sammy Baloji's 'Aequare: the Future that Never Was'

In opdracht van Sammy Baloji (twen­ty­ni­ne­stu­dio) ver­vaar­dig­de stie­la­te­lier een mes­sing maquet­te van ​“Panorama Atmosphérique”, een pavil­joen dat Congo moest repre­sen­te­ren op de expo van 1935 in Brussel maar dat er nooit kwam. Panorama Atmosphérique zou een geo-hydro­gra­fi­sche en kli­ma­to­lo­gi­sche recon­struc­tie van een ver­ken­nings­reis naar Belgisch Congo simu­le­ren, en had als doel de invloed en voor­uit­gang van de kolo­ni­a­le onder­ne­ming in Congo te demon­stre­ren. De maquet­te, een poë­ti­sche en kri­ti­sche her­in­ter­pre­ta­tie van het pro­ject, wordt getoond op de (architectuur)biennale van Venetië 2023. Baloji’s pre­sen­ta­tie ​‘Aequare: the Future that Never Was’ bestaat uit drie onder­de­len: naast de maquet­te wor­den er reis­ver­sla­gen van Belgische land­bouw­kun­di­gen en een video over het Yangambi Cultural Centre getoond.

Commissioned by Sammy Baloji (twen­ty­ni­ne­stu­dio), stie­la­te­lier pro­du­ced a brass maquet­te of ​“Panorama Atmosphérique”, a pavi­li­on that was sup­po­sed to repre­sent Congo at the 1935 expo in Brussels but never came to be. Panorama Atmosphérique was to simu­la­te a geo-hydro­grap­hic and cli­ma­tic recon­struc­ti­on of an explo­ra­to­ry trip to the Belgian Congo, and aimed to demon­stra­te the influ­en­ce and pro­gress of the colo­ni­al enter­pri­se in the Congo. The maquet­te, a poe­tic and cri­ti­cal rein­ter­pre­ta­ti­on of the pro­ject, will be shown at the Venice (Architecture) Biennale 2023. Baloji’s pre­sen­ta­ti­on ​‘Aequare: the Future that Never Was’ con­sists of three parts: in addi­ti­on to the maquet­te, tra­vel reports by Belgian agro­no­mists and a video about the Yangambi Cultural Centre will be shown.
