SILODROME: ELAPSE - groepspresentatie Curating the Young ft. Studio Annext

Met de tentoonstelling ELAPSE maakt Curating the Young ruimte voor een dialoog tussen vier kunstenaars (residenten van de atelierwerking Studio Annext) en de uitzonderlijke context van oude silo’s aan de Leuvense Vaartkom. Als restant van de laatste industriële maalderij van de stad, kunnen de silo’s gezien worden als een plek van reflectie over de voortdurende ontwikkeling en vergankelijkheid van onze leefomgeving.
De geselecteerde kunstenaars houden de silo’s en hun geschiedenis een spiegel voor door dezelfde thema’s, namelijk proces, beweging, ontwikkeling en transformatie, te materialiseren in hun eigen kunstpraktijken. De nakende privatisering van de silo’s zet de urgentie van deze artistieke gestes verder op scherp.
- Andrei Haesen zoomt, tot op microniveau, in op processen, interacties en desintegraties waarbij het vertragen of stilleggen van tijd een grote rol speelt.
- Jan Van Eijgen gebruikt schimmels als medium om de verhouding tussen de mens en fenomenen als transitie en regeneratie te onderzoeken.
- De werken van Maarten De Laet hebben een surrealistisch effect en creëren hierdoor een nieuw universum.
- Geïnspireerd door haar persoonlijke collectie van gevonden voorwerpen tast Amber Roucourt de grens van de fragiliteit van het medium op een performatieve en speels manier af waarbij beweging steeds centraal staat.

De tentoonstelling wordt op verschillende momenten geactiveerd tijdens een publiek programma op maat van de silo’s, geconcipieerd door o.a. Cas-co, Curating the Young en (stakeholders van) maakleerplek.

With the exhibition ELAPSE, Curating the Young facilitates a dialogue between four artists (residing in the ateliers of Studio Annext) and the exceptional context of the old silos at the Vaartkom in Leuven. As a remainder of the city’s last industrial mill, the silos can be seen as a place of reflection on the continuous development and impermanence of our living environment.
The selected artists hold up a mirror to the silos and their history by materializing the same themes in their own art practices, namely process, movement, development and transformation. The impending privatization of the silos further accentuates the urgency of these artistic gestures.
- Andrei Haesen zooms in, down to the micro level, on processes, interactions and disintegrations in which slowing down or stopping time plays a major role.
- Jan Van Eijgen uses fungi as a medium to investigate the relationship between humans and phenomena such as transition and regeneration.
- The works of Maarten De Laet have a surrealistic effect and create a new universe.
- Inspired by her personal collection of found objects, Amber Roucourt explores the boundaries of the fragility of ceramics in a performative and playful way, and in which movement is always central.
