Tine Deboelpaep (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist. Her current research focuses on how our ideas of self-reliance and well-being have been historically shaped by predominant political and economic conditions. These interests manifest themselves through (interactive) sculptures, installations, lecture performances and participative performances, which explore alternative ways of interdependence and community building. Her methodology is guided by intersectional feminism, disability justice and dramaturgical principles.

Tine is committed to artistic development as a process rooted in interconnectedness. Stemming from this mindset, the Sad Artist Department (SAD) emerged. SAD offers a staged temporality that gathers a fictive support group for artists and creative makers. SAD talks, exchanges and celebrates. The participative work isn’t ‘just pretending’. SAD forms a prefigurative space where we collectively rehearse in care-taking and generosity — often over a good cry and a shared meal. SAD’s latest iteration, No Doors on Their Mouths, takes place at Cas-co and within its wider network. The project delves into the soft underbelly of sustaining an artistic practice. Emotions like disappointment, insecurity and loss — that remain underexposed within the presentation-oriented dynamics of the arts field come together in an interactive scenography and sound piece and form a contemporary elegy.
Tine’s residency will take place from the end of May until the end of June 2025, with a presentation opening on June 12th. More information to follow.
