op woensdag 13 mei, zetten we opnieuw onze deuren open voor de tentoonstellingen van de Off the Grid-residenten. Stans Vrijsen & Sofia Boubolis en het collectief p.o.l.e (met Matilde Bassetti, Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust, Marcos Nacar en Mallaury Scala) delen hun werk en onderzoek. Dit is de laatste grote opening voor de zomer, dus kom zeker langs!

Duo 'Rouge Royal' – Stans Vrijsen & Sofia Boubolis

Rouge Royal is een artistiek duo gevormd door de Belgische kunstenaars Stans Vrijsen en Sofia Boubolis. Aan de hand van schilderkunst, tekeningen, installaties en archiefmateriaal beweegt hun praktijk zich tussen materiële imitatie en speculatief onderzoek. In plaats van een vaste methodologie te volgen, onderzoeken ze hoe objecten herinneringen vasthouden via residu, herhaling en hercontextualisering.
Tijdens hun Off the Grid-residentie kreeg deze benadering de vorm van een verspreid onderzoek door Leuven — langs collecties, opslagplaatsen, musea en historische bibliotheken. Geleid door nieuwsgierigheid eerder dan door een vooropgesteld doel, volgden ze wat doorgaans perifeer of onzichtbaar blijft: verborgen, onvolledige of slecht gedocumenteerde objecten. Tekeningen, aantekeningen en geluidsopnames registreren deze beweging.

Rouge Royal is an artistic duo formed by Belgian artists Stans Vrijsen and Sofia Boubolis. Through painting, drawings, installations, and archival material, their practice moves between material imitation and speculative research. Instead of following a fixed methodology, they investigate how objects retain memories through residue, repetition, and recontextualization.
During their Off the Grid residency, this approach took the form of a dispersed investigation throughout Leuven — visiting collections, storage facilities, museums, and historical libraries. Guided by curiosity rather than a predetermined goal, they followed what typically remains peripheral or invisible: hidden, incomplete, or poorly documented objects. Drawings, notes, and sound recordings capture this movement.

p.o.l.e is een interdisciplinair collectief dat zich toelegt op experimenteel artistiek onderzoek gesitueerd op het snijvlak van performance, beeldende kunst en curatoriële praktijk. De groep, opgericht in 2024 door Matilde Bassetti, Darius Dolatyari-Dolatdoust, Marcos Nacar en Mallaury Scala, is werkzaam in België, Duitsland en Frankrijk. Ze creëren tijdelijke laboratoria tijdens residenties, waar materiële experimenten en artistieke methodologieën collectief kunnen worden getest en vervolgens met een publiek worden gedeeld.
