Che Go Eun woont en werkt tus­sen Brussel en Seoul en is gefas­ci­neerd door de com­bi­na­tie van tra­di­ti­o­ne­le schil­der­tech­nie­ken en digi­ta­le tech­no­lo­gie. In haar recen­te pro­jec­ten Sleep Like a Rose (2023) en A.I. Artificial Insecurity (2024) cre­ëer­de ze AI-beel­den met dag­boek­frag­men­ten. De span­ning tus­sen femi­nis­me en patri­ar­chie, tus­sen voor­uit­gang en tra­di­tie, is een cen­traal the­ma in haar werk. Ze is onlangs nagels­ty­lis­te gewor­den: een bron van inkom­sten, waar­mee ze ook the­ma’s als iden­ti­teit en de rol van artis­tie­ke arbeid verkent.

Als onder­deel van haar resi­den­tie tij­dens het FRINGE Festival werd kun­ste­naar Che Go Eun uit­ge­no­digd om een nieu­we vlag te ont­wer­pen, die tij­dens het fes­ti­val zicht­baar zal zijn op de bin­nen­plaats van de Leuvense School Stroom.

De vlag is een com­bi­na­tie van haar aqua­rel­te­ke­nin­gen, geïn­spi­reerd door Dancheong, een Koreaanse deco­ra­tie­ve kleu­ring op hou­ten gebou­wen en voor­wer­pen, die ze ont­wik­kel­de om gesprek­ken met haar vader te weerspiegelen.

Tijdens het Festival pre­sen­teert Che Go een site-spe­ci­fie­ke instal­la­tie bij BAC ART LAB, waar­mee ze haar onder­zoek naar deco­ra­tief schil­de­ren en AI-gege­ne­reer­de beel­den uitbreidt

Che Go Eun lives and works bet­ween Brussels and Seoul and is fas­ci­na­ted by the com­bi­na­ti­on of tra­di­ti­o­nal pain­ting tech­ni­ques and digi­tal tech­no­lo­gy. In her recent pro­jects, Sleep Like a Rose (2023) and A.I. Artificial Insecurity (2024), she cre­a­ted AI ima­ges with dia­ry excerpts. The ten­si­on bet­ween femi­nism and patri­ar­chy, bet­ween pro­gress and tra­di­ti­on, is a cen­tral the­me in her work. She recent­ly beca­me a nail artist: a sour­ce of inco­me that also allo­wed her to explo­re the­mes such as iden­ti­ty and the role of artis­tic labour.

As part of her resi­d­en­cy during the FRINGE Festival, artist Che Go Eun was invi­ted to design a new monu­men­tal flag, which will be visi­ble in the cour­ty­ard of the school Stroom during the festival.

The design of the flag draws on her water­co­lor pain­tings, which are inspi­red by Dancheong, a Korean deco­ra­ti­ve pain­ting on wooden buil­dings and arti­facts, which she devel­o­ped to echo con­ver­sa­ti­ons with her father.

During the Festival, Che Go will pre­sent a site-spe­ci­fic instal­la­ti­on at BAC ART LAB, expan­ding her research into deco­ra­ti­ve pain­ting and AI-gene­ra­ted images.
