Collective-in-residence at Off the Grid - Deadline 01.06

OTG focu­ses in first instan­ce on visu­al artists, per­for­mers and hybrid practices.

Off the Grid wants to give spa­ce to artist-cen­tred, expe­ri­men­tal and col­la­bo­ra­ti­ve prac­ti­ces, paying spe­ci­al atten­ti­on to new voi­ces and pro­fi­les that have not (yet) been heard or be seen in a muse­um con­text, pre­sen­ta­ti­on insti­tu­ti­ons or the regu­lar arts field.

The resi­d­en­cy is open for col­lec­ti­ves based in Belgium or one of its neigh­bou­ring countries.

This call spe­ci­fi­cally focu­ses on prac­ti­ces of wan­de­ring, pathfin­ding and flâ­ne­rie, open­ly explo­ring the ques­ti­on, Who gets to walk and whe­re? This inclu­des the under­stan­ding of public and urban spa­ces as con­sti­tu­ents of one of the few oppor­tu­ni­ties for casu­al, embo­died encoun­ters but also a pla­ce charac­te­ri­sed by sys­te­mic issues, inclu­ding but not limi­ted to dis­cri­mi­na­ti­on, pri­vi­le­ge, poli­cing, clas­sism, sexism, and ableism.

Off the Grid offers a flexi­ble wor­king and pre­sen­ta­ti­on con­text in the main buil­ding of Cas-co, exis­ting of various spaces:

• Collective-in-resi­den­ce have access to a stu­dio spa­ce and pre­sen­ta­ti­on spa­ce of 120 m²;

• They have acces to seve­r­al shared workspa­ces at Cas-co and maak­leer­plek: a com­mu­nal kit­chen (Off the Plate), cowor­king and pro­jec­ti­on rooms (Off the Shelves), a sha­red work­shop for wood and metal at Cas-co and seve­r­al maker­labs at maak­leer­plek (e.g. the grap­hi­cal lab, high tech lab, tex­ti­le lab, tool library).

The resi­dents recei­ve seve­r­al forms of tai­lor-made support:

• Throughout their stay at OTG the resi­dent is wel­co­med and sup­por­ted by the resi­d­en­cy coo­r­di­na­tor Arthur Cordier, in clo­se col­la­bo­ra­ti­on with the rest of Cas-co’s team, gene­ral coo­r­di­na­tor Zuzanna Rachowska and pro­duc­ti­on coo­r­di­na­tor Jonas Dehnen;

• During wee­kly ses­si­ons, the resi­dent can con­sult on a broad spec­trum of artis­tic, cura­to­ri­al, admi­ni­stra­ti­ve, com­mu­ni­ca­ti­ve or pro­duc­ti­o­nal matters;

• The resi­dent is intro­du­ced, sup­por­ted and con­nec­ted to the local artis­tic com­mu­ni­ty, and is given access to net­working oppor­tu­ni­ties, open stu­dios, ope­nings, and so on.

Next to this, the resi­dents can make use of the over­ar­ching sup­port pro­gram­me orga­ni­zed by Cas-co:

• Every month, Cas-co wel­co­mes pro­fes­si­o­nal cura­tors and prac­ti­ti­o­ners to con­duct a Talk & Studio Visit with the residents;

• All resi­dents can par­ti­ci­pa­te in various mas­terclasses and (tech­ni­cal) ini­ti­a­ti­ons in our workshops;

• All artists can visit M Leuven and STUK free of char­ge during the resi­d­en­cy period.

• Collective in resi­den­ce recei­ves a wor­king bud­get of €10.000,– (inclu­si­ve VAT);
  

• The bud­get inclu­des the artist fees (mini­mum 40% of the total bud­get) and all pro­duc­ti­on, pre­sen­ta­ti­on, com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on, tra­vel and acco­mo­da­ti­on costs;

• Artists are wel­co­me to sug­gest addi­ti­o­nal sub­si­dies, Cas-co will sup­port the appli­ca­ti­ons when possible.

The appli­cant must fill in the appli­ca­ti­on form.

Through the form the can­di­da­tes can sub­mit one PDF, which includes:

• An intro­duc­ti­on of your prac­ti­ce (maxi­mum 1 page);

• A pro­ject pro­po­sal for your resi­d­en­cy peri­od (maxi­mum 2 pages);

• A port­fo­lio of rele­vant work, with works no older than 5 years (maxi­mum 10 pages).

The appli­ca­ti­ons must be sub­mit­ted via the fol­lo­wing link befo­re mid­night June 1^st (at midnight).

The appli­ca­ti­ons will be pro­ces­sed by a juries exis­ting of the Cas-co team as well as by one for­mer Off the Grid resi­dent, one ate­lier resi­dent, and one part­ner of Cas-co. All can­di­da­tes are asses­sed based on the rele­van­ce of their pro­po­sal in regards to Off the Grid’s pro­gram­me, as well as the prac­ti­cal fea­si­bi­li­ty of the pro­ject. The jury gua­ran­tees fair and equal tre­at­ment of all applications.

The out­co­me of the appli­ca­ti­ons will be com­mu­ni­ca­ted by mid-July.

OTG richt zich in eer­ste instan­tie op beel­dend kun­ste­naars, per­for­mers en hybri­de praktijken.

Off the Grid wil ruim­te geven aan kun­ste­naars­ge­dre­ven, expe­ri­men­te­le en col­la­bo­ra­tie­ve prak­tij­ken, met bij­zon­de­re aan­dacht voor nieu­we stem­men en pro­fie­len die (nog) niet gehoord of gezien wor­den bin­nen een muse­um­con­text, pre­sen­ta­tie-instel­lin­gen of het regu­lie­re kunstenveld.

De resi­den­tie staat open voor kun­ste­naars die wonen in België of een van de buur­lan­den.

Deze oproep focust spe­ci­fiek op prak­tij­ken van dwa­len, zoe­ken en flâ­ne­rie, en ver­kent open­lijk de vraag: Wie mag wan­de­len, en waar?
Daarbij wordt de publie­ke en ste­de­lij­ke ruim­te begre­pen als een van de wei­ni­ge plek­ken voor toe­val­li­ge, beli­chaam­de ont­moe­tin­gen, maar ook als een ruim­te die geken­merkt wordt door sys­te­mi­sche kwes­ties zoals (maar niet beperkt tot) dis­cri­mi­na­tie, pri­vi­le­ge, poli­tie­op­tre­den, klas­sis­me, sek­sis­me en validisme.

Off the Grid biedt een flexi­be­le werk- en pre­sen­ta­tie­con­text in het hoofd­ge­bouw van Cas-co, bestaan­de uit ver­schil­len­de ruimtes:

• Het col­lec­tief-in-resi­den­tie krijgt toe­gang tot een ate­lier- en pre­sen­ta­tie­ruim­te van 120 m²;

• Daarnaast kun­nen zij gebruik­ma­ken van diver­se gedeel­de werk­ruim­tes bij Cas-co en maak­leer­plek: een gemeen­schap­pe­lij­ke keu­ken (Off the Plate), cowor­king- en pro­jec­tie­ruim­tes (Off the Shelves), een gedeeld hout- en metaal­a­te­lier bij Cas-co, en ver­schil­len­de maker­labs bij maak­leer­plek (zoals het gra­fisch lab, high­tech lab, tex­tiel­lab en de gereedschapsbibliotheek).

Het pro­gram­ma kan zich ook uit­brei­den naar de publie­ke ruim­te in de omge­ving (zoals de monu­men­ta­le vlag­gen­mast op de speel­plaats van Brede School Stroom) of naar ande­re locaties.

OTG voor­ziet geen accom­mo­da­tie, maar kan hel­pen bij het zoe­ken naar moge­lijk­he­den in de buurt.

De resi­dents ont­van­gen ver­schil­len­de vor­men van op maat gemaak­te ondersteuning:

• Tijdens hun ver­blijf bij OTG wor­den de resi­dents ver­wel­komd en bege­leid door resi­den­tie­co­ör­di­na­tor Arthur Cordier, in nau­we samen­wer­king met het vol­le­di­ge Cas-co team: alge­meen coör­di­na­tor Zuzanna Rachowska en pro­duc­tie­co­ör­di­na­tor Jonas Dehnen;

• Tijdens weke­lijk­se gesprek­ken kun­nen resi­dents advies inwin­nen over een breed sca­la aan artis­tie­ke, cura­tori­ë­le, admi­ni­stra­tie­ve, com­mu­ni­ca­tie­ve of pro­duc­ti­o­ne­le kwesties;

• De resi­dent wordt geïn­tro­du­ceerd, onder­steund en ver­bon­den met de loka­le artis­tie­ke gemeen­schap, en krijgt toe­gang tot net­werk­mo­men­ten, open studio’s, ver­nis­sa­ges, enzovoort.

Daarnaast kun­nen de resi­dents gebruik­ma­ken van het over­koe­pe­lend onder­steu­nings­pro­gram­ma geor­ga­ni­seerd door Cas-co:

• Elke maand nodigt Cas-co pro­fes­si­o­ne­le cura­to­ren en prak­tijk­des­kun­di­gen uit voor een Talk & Studio Visit met de residents;

• Alle resi­dents kun­nen deel­ne­men aan diver­se mas­ter­clas­ses en (tech­ni­sche) ini­ti­a­ties in onze ateliers;

• Alle kun­ste­naars heb­ben gra­tis toe­gang tot M Leuven en STUK gedu­ren­de hun residentieperiode.

• Het col­lec­ti­ve-in-resi­den­ce ont­vangt een werk­bud­get van €10.000,– (incl. btw);
• Het bud­get omvat de artis­tie­ke ver­goe­din­gen (min­stens 40% van het tota­le bud­get) en alle kos­ten voor pro­duc­tie, pre­sen­ta­tie, com­mu­ni­ca­tie, rei­zen en ver­blijf.
• Kunstenaars wor­den aan­ge­moe­digd om aan­vul­len­de sub­si­dies voor te stel­len; Cas-co biedt onder­steu­ning bij de aan­vra­gen waar mogelijk.

De aan­vra­ger dient het aan­vraag­for­mu­lier in te vullen.

Via dit for­mu­lier kun­nen kan­di­da­ten één PDF-bestand indie­nen, dat het vol­gen­de bevat:

• Een intro­duc­tie van je prak­tijk (maxi­mum 1 pagina);

• Een pro­ject­voor­stel voor de resi­den­tie­pe­ri­o­de (maxi­mum 2 pagina’s);

• Een port­fo­lio van rele­vant werk, met wer­ken niet ouder dan 5 jaar (maxi­mum 10 pagina’s).

Aanvragen moe­ten vóór mid­der­nacht op 1 juni wor­den inge­diend via de vol­gen­de link.

De aan­vra­gen wor­den beoor­deeld door een jury die bestaat uit het Cas-co team, een voor­ma­li­ge Off the Grid-resi­dent, een ate­lier­re­si­dent, en een part­ner van Cas-co. Alle kan­di­da­ten wor­den geë­va­lu­eerd op de rele­van­tie van hun voor­stel in rela­tie tot het pro­gram­ma van Off the Grid, en op de prak­ti­sche haal­baar­heid van het pro­ject. De jury garan­deert een eer­lij­ke en gelij­ke behan­de­ling van alle aanvragen.

De resul­ta­ten van de selec­tie wor­den gecom­mu­ni­ceerd tegen half juli.
