Cas-co is glad to announce Arthur Cordier as the new residency coordinator!

Arthur’s involvement will be geared towards the development and coordination of Off the Grid, individual, collective and reflective residencies, as well as the extensive program of presentations, masterclasses and talks. He will be further connecting the resident artists with the platform, and aim at broadening connections within the field.
“We selected Arthur as the new residency coordinator because he fits seamlessly with the DNA of Off the Grid. Here, the (collective) development, presentation and communication of artistic practices form the permanent subject of research and experiment. Arthur gained experience in all of the mentionned domains and has a broad frame of reference that is particularly relevant for emerging artists and collectives. He also has a special relationship with Cas-co and Leuven: he was not only part of a residency at Cas-co himself in 2021, he was also born here. Now, after a very dynamich parcours, Arthur adds his completely different perspectives and networks to Cas-co and the city. We look very much forward to embarking on this journey together!” (Mirthe)
Bio
Arthur Cordier (1993, BE) maintains a artistic, curatorial and productional practice between Belgium and The Netherlands. Interested in organizing artists into collectives, in 2018 he co-founded The Balcony The Hague with Valentino Russo, which he currently co-curates with Abril Cisneros, Mari Kolcheva and Ariane Toussaint. In June 2020 Arthur joined, at the invitation of Maxime Moinet, the curatorial committee of Art Au Centre (Liège), a tri-annual exhibition in the city center of Liege. In addition, he has supported the production of exhibitions for various institutions in The Netherlands, among which Page Not Found, 1646, and West Den Haag.
With a background in communication, Arthur’s artistic practice reflects upon the relationship between commerce and people, and how this interaction shapes urban spaces as a result. The width of his proposals includes the aesthetics and politics of bureaucracy, entrepreneurship and productivity, which sometimes translates into exercises taking the economic condition of the artist as a starting point. More recently he looks at familiar landscapes through the lens of highways, trucking and visual (road) communication.
Arthur completed a master’s degree in artistic research at the Royal Academy of Arts The Hague in 2019. He has had solo exhibitions at IKOB Museum of Contemporary Art (Eupen), Hgtomi Rosa and TRIXIE (The Hague), as well as group exhibitions at the Maurits van de Laar Gallery (The Hague), TORCH Gallery (Amsterdam), M Museum (Leuven), Bregenz Biennale (Austria) a.o, as well as residencies at Biennale de l’Image Possible and RAVI (Liège). His work is held in private collections in The Netherlands and Belgium, as well as IKOB Museum of Contemporary Art (Eupen), The Annex Collection (UK) and HEDEN Collection (The Hague). He previously received support from the Mondriaan Fonds and Stroom Den Haag.

Arthur zal zich richten op de ontwikkeling en coördinatie van Off the Grid en haar verschillende residentietrajecten (individueel, collectief en reflectief), evenals op het programma van presentaties, masterclasses en lezingen. Hij zal zowel de tijdelijke als permanente residenten verder verbinden met het platform en zich de connecties met het kunstenveld verbreden.

Arthur Cordier (1993, BE) onderhoudt een artistieke, curatoriële en productionele praktijk tussen België en Nederland. Geïnteresseerd in het organiseren van kunstenaars in collectieven, richtte hij in 2018 samen met Valentino Russo The Balcony in Den Haag op, dat hij momenteel samen met Abril Cisneros, Mari Kolcheva en Ariane Toussaint cureert. In juni 2020 trad Arthur, op uitnodiging van Maxime Moinet, toe tot het curatorencomité van Art Au Centre (Luik), een driejaarlijkse tentoonstelling in het centrum van Luik. Daarnaast ondersteunde hij de productie van tentoonstellingen voor verschillende instellingen in Nederland, waaronder Page Not Found, 1646, en West-Den Haag.
Arthur beschikt over een achtergrond in communicatie en reflecteert met zijn artistieke praktijk op de relatie tussen commercie en mensen, en hoe deze interactie daardoor stedelijke ruimtes vormgeeft. De thema’s die hij aansnijdt variëren van de esthetiek en politiek van bureaucratie tot ondernemerschap en productiviteit, wat zich soms vertaalt in (denk)oefeningen waarbij de economische situatie van de kunstenaar zelf als uitgangspunt wordt genomen. Meer recentelijk kijkt hij naar bekende landschappen door de lens van vrachtvervoer, snelwegen en visuele (weg)communicatie.
Arthur rondde in 2019 een Master artistiek onderzoek af aan de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten Den Haag. Hij had solotentoonstellingen in IKOB Museum of Contemporary Art (Eupen), Hgtomi Rosa en TRIXIE (Den Haag), evenals groepstentoonstellingen in het Maurits van de Laar Gallery (Den Haag), TORCH Gallery (Amsterdam), M Museum (Leuven), Bregenz Biënnale (Oostenrijk) en residenties bij Biennale de l’Image Possible, Cas-co en RAVI (Luik). Zijn werk bevindt zich in privécollecties in Nederland en België, evenals in IKOB Museum of Contemporary Art (Eupen), The Annex Collection (VK) en HEDEN Collection (Den Haag). Eerder kreeg hij steun van het Mondriaan Fonds en Stroom Den Haag.
