Off the Grid (hierna afgekort als‘OTG’) is de naam van het residentie- en presentatieplatform voor kunstenaars, collectieven en onafhankelijke curatoren in Cas-co.Het programma besteedt bijzondere aandacht aan nieuwe stemmen en profielen die (nog) niet gehoord of gezien worden in een museale context, presentatie-instellingen of het reguliere kunstenveld. In OTG start elk traject met een periode van ontwikkeling — zij het het eigen maken van een nieuwe discipline of skill, het opstarten van een nieuw onderzoek of de productie van het nieuw werk, het analyseren van de eigen positie in het veld of het exploreren van nieuwe samenwerkingen — en vertaalt zich gaandeweg naar een collectief vormgegeven publiek programma. Het platform vertakt zich vanuit verschillende ruimtes op de gelijkvloers van Cas-co naar de publieke ruimte rondom Cas-co. OTG promoot en presenteert tot slot ook video’s, publicaties en edities van kunstenaars verbonden aan de community.
Met deze OPEN OPEN CALL gaat OTG op zoek naar kunstenaars, curatoren en collectieven die invulling willen geven aan haar komende twee seizoenen (najaar 2024 & voorjaar 2025). Iedereen kan zich aanmelden met goede ideeën of wilde dromen, die door een artistieke jury worden behandeld. De voorstellen kunnen allerlei vormen aannemen: van een omvattend residentie- of onderzoeksproject tot een tentoonstelling, festival, happening, performance, screening of talk. De geselecteerde groep kunstenaars, denkers of makers kan beschikken over atelier- en tentoonstellingsruimte, materiaal, een budget, begeleiding en communicatie-ondersteuning. We kijken er naar uit om jullie praktijken te leren kennen, dus aarzel niet om te appliceren!

- Off the Grid bestaat uit een presentatieruimte van 120m² met een veelzijdige scenografie in de centrale ruimte van Cas-co. Daarnaast is er een projectatelier van 35 m², een gemeenschappelijke keuken en een polyvalente ruimte (met koffiehoek, vergaderopties, een projectiescherm en een bibliotheek voor kunstenaarspublicaties).
Voor de productie van nieuwe werken kunnen er ook toegang tot de gedeelde werkruimtes (hout, metaal, high tech, textiel, foto, print) ter beschikking gesteld worden. Waar mogelijk voorziet Off the Grid in presentatiemateriaal en ‑middelen.
Tot slot transformeert Off the Grid ook actief de ruimte rondom Cas-co, met onder andere een mast voor reuzenvlaggen op het schoolplein van Stroom, een raamnis en een banner op maakleerplek. Desgewenst kunnen de kunstenaars ook andere ruimtes of faciliteiten in of buiten Cas-co betrekken.

Voor de residentietrajecten worden budgetten van 4200 (voor individuele kunstenaars) of 10000 (voor collectieven) uitgerekend.
Voor kleinere of meer afgebakende projectideeën worden budgetten in samenspraak opgemaakt.
Publicaties, edities en zines kunnen kosteloos in het programma opgenomen worden. Verkoop via de kunstenaar wordt waar mogelijk ondersteund.
Het staat iedereen vrij om het basisbudget met andere budgetten aan te vullen.

Alle residenten en deelnemers aan het programma worden zo goed mogelijk verwelkomd in de dynamische omgeving van Cas-co.
De centrale contactpersoon is de residentiecoördinator. Hij/zij/hen maakt de kunstenaars wegwijs, begeleidt de residentietrajecten en zoekt actief naar mogelijkheden en verbindingen in het programma.
Maandelijks gaan de residenten van Off the Grid in gesprek met een externe curator tijdens atelierbezoeken. Naast dit structurele programma van ontmoetingen met professionals, kunnen de residenten deelnemen aan technische en inhoudelijke masterclasses.
Tot slot staan de residenten in nauw contact met de algemeen coördinator en productiecoördinator, die waar mogelijk advies en ondersteuning bij de realisatie van de plannen bieden.

- De kunstenaars staan zelf in voor het ontwikkelen van inhoud voor de sociale media en de website van Cas-co en Off the Grid, die door de residentiecoördinator verwerkt en verspreid worden.
Het interne team zal uiteraard ondersteuning bieden voor de communicatie van alle publieke momenten via de verschillende kanalen om zo een breed publiek te bereiken.
Off the Grid zorgt tot slot voor goede documentatie van de residentietrajecten en het programma.

Giet je ideeën voor Off the Grid in een kort voorstel van één tot twee pagina’s en bezorg het ons tot en met 2 juni 2024 via offthegrid@cas-co.be. De aanmelding moet bestaan uit de volgende elementen:

Stel jezelf en jouw praktijk voor in 5 – 10 lijnen
Introduceer een bestaand of te ontwikkelen projectidee in 10 – 15 lijnen
Een programma komt tot stand in samenwerking en samenspraak met anderen. Daarom moet het eindresultaat nog niet helemaal vastliggen in het voorstel, maar we verwachten wel een visie als het aankomt op het artistieke concept, de samenwerking, het gebruik van de ruimte, tijd en budget. Een focus op gezamenlijke artistieke ontwikkeling wordt aangemoedigd. Voor de selectie van residenten focust Off the Grid op diversiteit inzake gender, etnische afkomst, sociale achtergrond en leeftijd. Daarnaast moedigen we startende kunstenaars aan om te appliqueren voor dit residentieprogramma.

Off the Grid (hereinafter abbreviated as ‘OTG’) is the name of the residency and presentation platform for artists, collectives and independent curators in Cas-co. The program pays special attention to new voices and profiles that have not (yet) been heard or be seen in a museum context, presentation institutions or the regular arts field. In OTG, every trajectory starts with a period of development — be it mastering a new discipline or skill, starting new research or producing new work, analyzing one’s own position in the field or exploring new collaborations — and gradually translates into a collectively designed public program. The platform branches out from various spaces on the ground floor of Cas-co to the public space around Cas-co. OTG also promotes and presents videos, publications and editions by artists associated with the community.
With this OPEN OPEN CALL, OTG is looking for artists, curators and collectives who want to give substance to its next two seasons (autumn 2024 & spring 2025). Anyone can register with good ideas or wild dreams, which will be considered by an artistic jury. The proposals can take all kinds of forms: from a comprehensive residency or research project to an exhibition, festival, happening, performance, screening or talk. The selected group of artists, thinkers or makers can have studio and exhibition space, materials, a budget, guidance and communication support at their disposal. - Off the Grid consists of a 120m² presentation room with a versatile scenography in the central space of Cas-co. In addition, there is a 35 m² project studio, a communal kitchen and a multi-purpose room (with coffee corner, meeting options, a projection screen and a library for artist publications).
- Access to the shared workspaces (wood, metal, high-tech, textile, photo, print) can also be made available for the production of new works. Where possible, Off the Grid provides presentation materials and resources.
- Finally, Off the Grid is also actively transforming the space around Cas-co, including a mast for giant flags on the Stroom schoolyard, a window alcove and a banner at the makerspace. If desired, the artists can also occupy other spaces or facilities in or outside Cas-co.

- Budgets of 4,200 (for individual artists) or 10,000 (for collectives) are calculated for the residency programs.
- For smaller or more defined project ideas, budgets are drawn up in consultation.
- Publications, editions and zines can be included in the program free of charge. Sales through the artist are supported where possible.
- Everyone is free to supplement the basic budget with other budgets.

- All residents and program participants are welcomed as best as possible in the dynamic environment of Cas-co.
- The central contact person is the residence coordinator. He/she/them guides the artists, supervises the residency processes and actively searches for possibilities and connections in the program.
- Every month, the residents of Off the Grid talk to an external curator during studio visits. In addition to this structural program of meetings with professionals, the residents can participate in technical and substantive master classes.
- Finally, the residents are in close contact with the general coordinator and production coordinator, who provide advice and support in the realization of the plans where possible.

- The artists themselves are responsible for developing content for the social media and the website of Cas-co and Off the Grid, which is processed and distributed by the residency coordinator.
- The internal team will of course provide support for the communication of all public moments via the various channels in order to reach a wide audience.
- Finally, Off the Grid ensures good documentation of the program.

Put your ideas for Off the Grid into a short proposal of one to two pages and send it to us by June 2nd, 2024 via offthegrid@cas-co.be. The registration must consist of the following elements:
- Share a brief portfolio or 5 separate images
- Introduce yourself and your practice in 5 – 10 lines
- Introduce an existing or project idea to be developed in 10 – 15 lines
A program is created in collaboration and consultation with others. That is why the end result should not yet be completely fixed in the proposal, but we do expect a vision when it comes to the artistic concept, the collaboration, the use of space, time and budget. A focus on joint artistic development is encouraged. When selecting residents, Off the Grid focuses on diversity in terms of gender, ethnic origin, social background and age. In addition, we encourage aspiring artists to apply for this residency program.
