Vlag #1: Landscapes whe­re we meet:

Landschap ver­schilt van land door de ver­wer­king door de men­se­lij­ke waar­ne­ming. Mensen erva­ren hun omge­ving holis­tisch door al hun zin­tui­gen tege­lijk te gebrui­ken, waar­door het land — via licha­me­lij­ke en empi­ri­sche erva­ring — wordt omge­zet in een mind­s­ca­pe. In deze vlag wor­den de gebrui­ke­lij­ke ter­mi­no­lo­gie en rati­o­ne­le getal­len die de meet­lat ijken, ver­van­gen door fysie­ke begrip­pen en rela­ti­o­ne­le geba­ren (bv. con­text, zorg, scè­ne) die de para­me­ters van zowel exter­ne (ste­de­lij­ke) als inter­ne (men­se­lij­ke) ruim­te in vraag stel­len. Het instru­ment, dat gewoon­lijk wordt gebruikt voor de ont­wik­ke­ling van model­len en ont­werp­plan­nen op klei­ne schaal, wordt hier­bij omge­keerd uit­ver­groot tot archi­tec­tu­ra­le dimen­sies. De vlag is een uit­no­di­ging voor de kij­ker om te expe­ri­men­te­ren met ver­schil­len­de per­spec­tie­ven op het ste­de­lijk landschap.

Over Every Island:

Every Island is een Brussels design­col­lec­tief opge­richt in 2021. Ze onder­zoe­ken het con­cept van per­for­ma­ti­vi­teit in de ruim­te door mid­del van archi­tec­tuur en efe­me­re instal­la­ties. Met het begrip ambi­gu­ï­teit als ont­werp­mid­del zien ze de ruim­te als een sce­no­gra­fie van over­gan­gen, rol­len, scè­nes en bete­ke­nis­sen. In elk pro­ject wordt de mate­ri­a­li­teit opge­vat als een her­in­ne­ring aan ver­bor­gen beel­den en sen­sa­ties. Het col­lec­tief werd opge­richt door Alessandro Cugola, Caterina Malavolti, Damir Draganic, Martina Genovesi en Juliane Seehawer.

Flag #2: Landscapes whe­re we meet:

Landscape dif­fers from land becau­se of the pro­ces­sing by human per­cep­ti­on. People expe­rien­ce their envi­ron­ment holis­ti­cally by using all their sen­ses simul­ta­neous­ly, trans­for­ming the land — through bodi­ly and empi­ri­cal expe­rien­ce — into a mind­s­ca­pe. In this flag, the usu­al ter­mi­no­lo­gy and rati­o­nal num­bers that cali­bra­te the ruler — are repla­ced by phy­si­cal noti­ons and rela­ti­o­nal gestu­res (f.e. con­text, care, sce­ne) that ques­ti­on the para­me­ters of both exter­nal (urban) as inter­nal (human) spa­ce. The tool, nor­mal­ly applied for the devel­op­ment of small sca­le models and design plans, is here­by con­ver­se­ly enlar­ged to archi­tec­tu­ral dimen­si­ons. The flag is an invita­ti­on for the vie­wer to expe­ri­ment with dif­fe­rent per­spec­ti­ves on the cityscape.

About Every Island:

Every Island is a Brussels based design col­lec­ti­ve foun­ded in 2021. They inves­ti­ga­tes the con­cept of per­for­ma­ti­vi­ty in spa­ce through archi­tec­tu­re and ephe­me­ral instal­la­ti­ons. Using the noti­on of ambigui­ty as a design tool, they see spa­ce as a sce­no­grap­hy of tran­si­ti­ons, roles, sce­nes and mea­nings. In each pro­ject, the mate­ri­a­li­ty is con­cei­ved as a remi­nis­cen­ce of hid­den ima­ges and sen­sa­ti­ons. The col­lec­ti­ve was foun­ded by Alessandro Cugola, Caterina Malavolti, Damir Draganic, Martina Genovesi, Juliane Seehawer.
