Off the Grid heeft als doel kun­ste­naars te onder­steu­nen in de ont­wik­ke­ling en het zicht­baar maken van hun prak­tijk. OTG orga­ni­seert naast resi­den­ties en pro­gram­ma’s in huis, ook ver­schil­len­de pre­sen­ta­tie­mo­ge­lijk­he­den in de publie­ke ruim­te rond­om de Vaartkom.

Begin 2023 instal­leer­de OTG samen met het Gentse col­lec­tief 019 een vlag­gen­mast op de speel­plaats van Brede School Stroom. Deze mast van 20 meter vormt een per­ma­nen­te ten­toon­stel­lings­ruim­te in de open­ba­re ruim­te: elk jaar wor­den vier vlag­gen van onge­veer 54m² ont­wor­pen door kun­ste­naars die ver­bon­den zijn met de Leuvense sce­ne of Cas-com­­mu­­ni­­ty. Het pro­ject speelt actief in op de snel ver­an­de­ren­de omge­ving van de Vaartkom met al zijn indu­stri­eel erf­goed en nieuw­bouw­pro­jec­ten. De Leuvense vlag­gen rei­zen ver­vol­gens naar Gent en vice ver­sa. Dit pro­ject wordt onder­steund door de Vlaamse Overheid en Stad Leuven.

OTG werkt daar­naast, even­eens sinds 2023, actief samen met maak­leer­plek om de mis­sie, acti­vi­tei­ten en makers ver­bon­den aan deze plek, gesi­tu­eerd in de Molens Van Orshoven, op een kwa­li­ta­tie­ve manier zicht­baar te maken. Sinds sep­tem­ber 2023 is er op de cen­tra­le koer een aan­plak­bord, die fun­geert als vitri­ne voor gra­fi­sche wer­ken, al dan niet ver­vaar­digd in het foto­gra­fi­sche lab. In decem­ber lever­den Jonas & Sarah met​‘Per­pe­tu­um’ Brood­bi­le’ het eer­ste kun­ste­naars­ont­werp voor de ban­ner die de oost­ge­vel van maak­leer­plek siert. Deze monu­men­ta­le ban­ner, die meer dan 140 vier­kan­te meter beschrijft, zal jaar­lijks door een nieu­we artis­tie­ke prak­tijk vorm­ge­ge­ven wor­den en zo een nieuw kunst­werk intro­du­ce­ren in de publie­ke ruim­te van de Vaartkom.

Off the Grid aims to sup­port artists in the devel­op­ment and visi­bi­li­ty of their prac­ti­ce. In addi­ti­on to in-hou­se resi­den­cies and pro­grams, OTG also orga­ni­zes various pre­sen­ta­ti­on opti­ons in the public spa­ce around the Vaartkom.

OTG instal­led a flag­po­le on the playground of Brede School Stroom together with the Ghent col­lec­ti­ve 019. This 20-metre mast forms a per­ma­nent exhi­bi­ti­on spa­ce in public spa­ce: eve­ry year, four flags of about 54m² are desig­ned by artists con­nec­ted to the Leuven sce­ne or Cas-com­mu­ni­ty. The pro­ject acti­ve­ly res­ponds to the rapid­ly chan­ging envi­ron­ment of the Vaartkom with all its indu­stri­al heri­ta­ge and new con­struc­ti­on pro­jects. The Leuven flags will then tra­vel to Ghent and vice ver­sa. This pro­ject is sup­por­ted by the Flemish Government and the City of Leuven.

OTG also has been acti­ve­ly wor­king with maak­leer­plek to make the mis­si­on, acti­vi­ties and makers asso­ci­a­ted with this pla­ce, loca­ted in the Molens Van Orshoven, bet­ter visi­ble. Since September 2023, the­re has been a bill­board in the cen­tral cour­ty­ard, which func­ti­ons as a show­ca­se for grap­hic works, whe­ther or not pro­du­ced in the pho­to­grap­hic lab. In December, Jonas & Sarah deli­ve­r­ed the first artis­t’s design for the ban­ner that adorns the east faca­de of Maakleerplaats with ​‘Perpetuum’ Broodbile’. This monu­men­tal ban­ner, which covers more than 140 squa­re meters, will be desig­ned annu­al­ly by a new artis­tic prac­ti­ce and thus intro­du­ce a new work of art into the public spa­ce of the Vaartkom.
