LUCA Showcase Award: Kitty Kamp
Op 15 oktober 2016 werd de Cas-co Award aan een recent afstuderende kunstenaar aan Luca School of Arts toegekend. Kitty Kamp krijgt in 2017 de mogelijkheid om tijdens een werkperiode in de N+1 ruimte van Cas-co een artistiek project te ontwikkelen en daarna ook te presenteren aan het publiek met een tentoonstelling, artist talk en screening. Uit alle presentaties tijdens de Show Case tentoonstelling van Luca School of Arts in De Markten, Brussel koos de Cas-co jury voor het werk van Kitty Kamp. Kamp is een kunstenares die op speelse wijze formats uit de populaire beeldcultuur — zoals handleidingen, recepten en tutorials ‑gebruikt om iets te vertellen over genre, medium, onderzoek en artistiek proces. Via geënsceneerde handelingen van lichaam en stem eigent ze zich alledaagse objecten, situaties of een typisch analytisch discours toe. Door ze samen te brengen en tegelijk uit hun context te halen, openen er zich voortdurend nieuwe betekenissen en perspectieven. Ook al balanceert het werk van Kitty Kamp tussen video, performance en sculpturaliteit, het getuigt, door de ongedwongen eenvoud en haar ongecompliceerde presentatie, van humor, durf en evenwicht. Bio: Predominantly working with video, Kitty draws upon the history of cinema, art and performance. With a keen interest in writing, she pursues a critical approach of her role as an artist and the situation of contemporary art. Moreover, she enjoys appropriating the absurdities of the world through various subjects of interest, and uses techniques borrowed from (popular) culture. Her focus lies on the mystification that arises from demystification and the process of (making) things. °1987, The Netherlands.
