Wishing to cap­tu­re the sun whi­le facing the impos­si­bi­li­ty of doing so with a standard came­ra, Chantal van Rijt used the basics of pho­to­grap­hy and of the eye itself: light fal­ling through a lens, cau­sing a pro­jec­ti­on.

Van Rijt’s pho­to­graphs are arran­ged in the book accor­ding to the posi­ti­on of the sun in the pic­tu­re fra­me. The sun always remains in the midd­le of the page and so deter­mi­nes the pla­ce of each image.

Chantal van Rijt wil­de de zon vast­leg­gen ter­wijl ze gecon­fron­teerd werd met de onmo­ge­lijk­heid om dat met een stan­daard­ca­me­ra te doen, en gebruik­te de basis­prin­ci­pes van foto­gra­fie en van het oog zelf: licht dat door een lens valt en een pro­jec­tie veroorzaakt.

De foto’s van Van Rijt zijn in het boek gerang­schikt vol­gens de stand van de zon in de foto­lijst. De zon staat altijd in het mid­den van de pagi­na en bepaalt zo de plaats van elke afbeelding.
