M Leuven: Mine Away - Lola Daels
Lola Daels creëert sculpturen en installaties waarin ze de notie authenticiteit in de huidige ecologische en sociaal-politieke context bevraagt. Tijdens haar M‑residentie verdiepte ze zich in twee Italiaanse, in onbruik geraakte technieken: scagliola (schijnmarmer) en pietra dura (inlegwerk in steen). M presenteert het resultaat van haar residentie van 15 maart tot 1 september 2024 in het museum.
Daels’ praktijk wordt gekenmerkt door uitvoerig materiaalonderzoek en arbeidsintensief experiment. Centraal in haar werk staat de relatie tussen mens en natuur. Haar visueel verleidelijke werken zijn doorweven met verwijzingen naar ecologische rampen, klimaatverandering en de onomkeerbare impact van de mens op de planeet.
Lola Daels (1990, Jette) woont en werkt in Brussel. Ze behaalde in 2014 haar master beeldende kunsten aan Luca School of Arts, Brussel. Haar werk was eerder te zien in groepstentoonstellingen in onder meer Bozar (BE), Extracity Kunsthal (BE), Art Sonje Center Seoul (KR) en Kunsthal Aarhus (DK). Ze nam eerder deel aan residentieprogramma’s zoals EKWC (NL), Cité Internationale des Arts (FR), AAIR Antwerpen (BE) en Fondation CAB (BE).

Lola Daels creates sculptures and installations in which she questions the notion of authenticity within the current ecological and socio-political context. During her M residency, she immersed herself in two obsolete Italian techniques: scagliola (faux marble) and pietra dura (inlaid stone). M presents the results of her residency from 15 March to 1 September 2024 at the museum.
Daels’ practice is characterised by extensive material research and labour-intensive experimentation. Central to her oeuvre is the relationship between humans and nature. Her visually seductive works are laced with references to ecological disasters, climate change and the irreversible impact of humans on the planet.
Lola Daels (b. 1990, Jette) lives and works in Brussels. She gained her master’s degree in visual arts from the Luca School of Arts, Brussels, in 2014. Her work has previously been shown in group exhibitions at Bozar (BE), Extracity Kunsthal (BE), Art Sonje Center Seoul (KR) and Kunsthal Aarhus (DK), amongst others. Daels has also completed residencies at EKWC (NL), Cité Internationale des Arts (FR), AAIR Antwerp (BE) and Fondation CAB (BE).
